Sublimation uses heat to transfer specially prepared dye into a compatible surface. Rather than creating a heavy layer of print on top, the colour bonds with the material during the transfer process.
That makes sublimation especially useful when the design calls for vibrant colour, gradients, photographs, patterns or detailed artwork that would be difficult to achieve with simpler garment-printing methods.

Sublimation can produce beautiful results, but the material you’re printing on matters. Here are the important bits before you place your request.
What is sublimation printing?
Sublimation is a heat-transfer process that uses specially prepared dye to transfer artwork into a compatible material or coated surface. The design becomes part of the printable surface rather than forming a heavy layer on top.
What materials work best for sublimation?
Sublimation generally works best with polyester-rich fabrics and products manufactured or coated specifically for sublimation. The suitability of an item should be confirmed before production.
Can you sublimate onto cotton T-shirts?
Traditional sublimation is not designed for ordinary 100% cotton in the same way it is for polyester. If you’re printing cotton clothing, send us the artwork and garment details and we’ll recommend a more suitable printing method where necessary.
Can sublimation print photographs?
Yes. One of sublimation’s strengths is its ability to reproduce detailed, full-colour artwork, including suitable photographic designs, gradients and complex graphics.
Can I use lots of colours?
Yes. Sublimation is particularly useful when the artwork contains multiple colours, gradients, patterns or detailed graphical elements.
Can I bring my own items?
Yes, but we’ll need to assess them first. Not every garment, fabric or product can accept sublimation, so we need to confirm the material or coating before production.

Does sublimation peel or crack?
On a properly compatible surface, sublimation dye becomes part of the printable material rather than forming a thick vinyl-like layer on top. This means there is no conventional print layer to peel in the same way as some surface-applied methods.
Is sublimation right for every job?
No. Fabric composition, product coating, colour and the type of artwork all influence whether sublimation is the best option. If another printing method would work better, we’ll recommend it.
